No activities you like? Fancy starting something new?
Setting up a Sports club or Society, through The Students' Union, is a great way to get involved, have fun and most importantly, continue where you left off!
You might want to think about the following:
...The name of your club / society
...What will your club / society actually do?
...What activities will you organise?
...Who will be on your committee?
...How many members do you think you'll be able to recruit?
...What membership fee will you charge?
...How much will it cost to set up and run your club / society?
...How much income do you think you can generate? i.e. through The Students' Union grant, membership fees
Follow these easy steps to be the proud owner of a brand spanking new sports club or society
1. Decide on which activity you would like to turn into a sports club or society and why
2. Make sure The Students' Union doesn't currently have a sports club or society that is similar in its activities or aims
3. Find some like-minded people who would help you run your club or society and be your committee. It's a lot easier to run your sports club or society with the help of others (The Students' Union may be able to help you with this if you can't find anyone yourself)
4. Get in touch with the Students' Union at j.ruszczynski@su.arts.ac.uk
5. The Union will help you put your ideas in writing using a 'New Sport/Society Pack', which can also be downloaded below:
> New Sport/Society Proposal Form (word doc)
OK, you've done the hard bit. Now The Students' Union takes over!
1. Your proposal is sent to a meeting of the Sports and Societies Council (you will need to be there to present it and to answer any questions that members of the Council might have).
2. If your proposal is accepted there, it will be passed to the Union Council, where the decision will be finalised. You will be then informed in writing of the decision of the Union Council.
3. Once you receive your written confirmation, you will be the president of the newest sports club or society at the Students Union!
Go start organising your activities, recruiting members, organising events, finding speakers, arranging sports matches and enjoying yourself!
