How can the Advice & Support Service help me?

We are free and accessible to all students at the University of the Arts London.

We are independent from the University and offer impartial advice without bias or influence from any outside bodies, including your college.

We put you first, and aim to empower you to make an informed decision to get the best possible resolution for you.

We are non judgmental and will advise you on the best way forward from where you are, no judge you on your current circumstances. We will always respect you and treat you in line with our Equal Opportunities Policy.

We are confidential. We never share your information with anyone outside of our Service, including the University without your express permission, unless you are at risk of harm to yourself or others, or according to the law.

The Students' Union employs five full time Problem Solving & Prevention Team Advisers who can assist you with conflicts, queries or disputes regarding your course, the University and other issues whilst you are studying at the University of the Arts. If you are experiencing problems, we are here to help.

We can help you to complete Extenuating Circumstances, Appeals, Complaint forms or just talk through any concerns with you and identify the best course of action.

What can I do if something is going wrong for me?

Most of the problems are resolved on an informal basis, by talking to a member of University staff. Failing that, you may consider taking formal action. The procedures are outlined in the University of Arts Rules and Regulations. For more specific advice contact our team.

If you are going through personal difficulties that affect your performance, you can complete an Extenuating Circumstances form. Submitting this form and appropriate evidence to your school office should ensure that the Examination Board considers your situation fairly.

If afterwards you don't think the decision is fair, there are two possible grounds for appeal marks or academic decisions. One is that there were extenuating circumstances affecting your performance but you were unable to let the examiners know in advance. The other is where you suspect a 'material irregularity' (error) in the assessment process, for example, if your work has not been marked correctly or in the same way as that of other students on your course.

If your appeal is successful you will be given a fresh assessment (i.e. without a "cap" on your mark).
