Counselling, Health Advice and Disability

Counselling

There are many reasons why it can be useful to talk to a counsellor. You may be finding it difficult to settle into college or your new life in London, or you may be confused or have an important decision to make. Relationships with friends or family may be problematic, or you might be feeling unhappy or worried. Something may have happened which has left you very upset. It is also common for people not to know what the matter is, and talking it through can help work out what is going on.

You may only need one session, or you and your counsellor may decide that a series of appointments would be helpful. If an external specialist agency would be of more help to you, you will be given details of how to contact them.

You can make an appointment to see a counsellor by contacting Student Services' central offices at 65 Davies St, or through the Student Services office at your College. The service is confidential and free to all University of the Arts London students.

Please contact us or visit our website if you would like more information about counselling.

Health Advice

Arts London has formed a new partnership with UAL Health, an NHS GP service. You may be able to register with them if you live in University managed accommodation (except Furzedown Hall) or if you live in certain postcodes. Go to www.ualhealth.com to check it out and/or register.

Even if you've got private health insurance, or a doctor back home it's vital you have one in London who can see you in an emergency.

If you have a specific health query, you can contact one of the Student Services Health Advisers. They are happy to give advice or support on issues such as healthy eating, smoking, alcohol and drugs, contraception, travel health, exercise, sexual health, pregnancy, stress and anxiety, depression and mental health problems.

For information on Meningitis, Mumps and many other health issues visit our website. You can also pick up a Student Health leaflet from the Student Services office at your College.

Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy is one of the support services you can call on. There are several chaplains at the University of the Arts London. The Chaplains offer friendly and confidential spiritual counsel and pastoral care, whatever your beliefs. Offering guidance about religious observance and any issue relating to religion, faith and spirituality, they also host opportunities for learning more about faith, belief and practice, spirituality, art and creativity.

We’re available for a confidential coffee and chat, or help you sort through some deeper stuff – like how your studies and career fit into the wider scheme of things, how you decide what your priorities are, and what you can do to explore the religious and spiritual dimensions of life. Amongst other things we:

  • are available for non judgemental spiritual counsel and pastoral care

  • listen to students of any faith or belief or none who want to talk things confidentially though

  •

provide information about worship centres of world faiths in London
