What can I do?
Most of the problems are resolved on an informal basis, by talking to a member of University staff. Failing that, you may consider making a formal complaint. The complaints procedure is outlined in the University of Arts Rules and Regulations. For more specific advice come and see us!
If you are going through personal difficulties which affect your performance, you can complete an Extenuating Circumstances form. Submitting this form and appropriate evidence to your school office should ensure that the Examination Board considers your situation fairly.
If afterwards you don't think the decision is fair, there are two possible grounds for appeal marks or academic decisions. One is that there were extenuating circumstances affecting your performance but you were unable to let the examiners know in advance. The other is where you suspect a 'material irregularity' (error) in the assessment process, for example, if your work has not been marked correctly or in the same way as that of other students on your course.
If your appeal is successful you will be given a fresh assessment (i.e. without a "cap" on your mark).
