► Resources for Candidates

   

After submitting your nomination you will be invited to attend a candidate briefing. During the briefing you will find out more about the election process, how to write a manifesto and campaign in an election, staff will also be able to answer any questions you may have.
If you would like to find out more before the briefing, in this section you will find a number of resources that will help you to start your campaign.

 

// What do candidates need to do before campaigning starts?

  • Read the Election rules & Regulations
  • Attend one of the candidate briefings
  • Brief anyone who will be helping with their campaign

Candidates will need to produce:

  • A manifesto
  • A candidate video
  • A candidate picture
    •  A campaign statement/slogan

The deadline for submitting all of the above is 12pm Friday 24th February 2012. Any submissions later than this date may not be included in publicity sent out by the union.

//Manifestos
A manifesto is your way of informing voters what you stand for and what you what to acheive if elected.All candidates manifestos will be avaiable online when students are voting. We have a 200 word limit on these

 

//Campaign Statements
In addition to your manifesto you will also be required to submit a short campaign statement (max a few words) that will appear on the website voting page and paper ballot form.
Voters will be able to view your full manifesto while voting however this small statement is your chance to really sell your self and your objectives.

The union  will produce a booklet for voters containing all the A5 jpegs submitted by candidates. You may wish to include a shorter version of your manifesto, pictures or artwork that you feel represent your campaign and objectives, or just a copy of your campaign publicity.

You will need to stand out from the other candidates so be creative!

NB this is just for Sabbatical and Vice President Candidates. Other candidates will have their names mentioned in the booklet and a link to the website.


//Elections Campaigning

Your campaign will arguably be most important stage of the election period… A well planned and delivered campaign is likely to be the difference between a vote.
